Visited Rock Tavern on Memorial Day 2007. Paul Ellering, owner, was there. Great guy. Showed us some of his old pro wrestling memoribilia. The all-you-can-eat taco bar was excellent. Buy a t-shirt. Every time you wear it when you go back, your 2nd drink is free. The fishing is always good on Big Birch Lake, too.
Have gone to Rock Tavern twice in 2009, most recently on the 4th of July. Just missed the buffet at night, but was just in time for live music- by local band Kodiak. Dined in the outdoor patio overlooking Big Birch Lake at sunset- awesome. Had beer, cheese sticks, and pizza. Service was a little slow, but there was a big turnout and not quite enough help on hand. No problem, I wasn't in a hurry to leave. A wealthy lake home owner was shooting off great fireworks over the lake for almost an hour! My girlfriend and I asked for a photo with Paul Ellering. He was very cordial and patient. Thanks, Paul! I hope, if they sell the place, that they keep the Rock Tavern alive. I hope to return within a couple months.
