With friends and family,January 2, 2009. The first and only time I have visited the Lake Athens Marina was a bad experience. They fry shrimp, calamari and the hushpuppies in the same oil and deep fryer. (confirmed by the cook, waitress and owner) I was not aware of this. There were no written warnings or verbal warnings of this practice. I ended up in the hospital with an allergic reaction to shrimp, after eating a few bites of Calamari. The owner assured me and my husband that he would indeed take care of my hospital bill. My husband and I asked of any nearby Emergency Clinics. The owner said: "No, we don't have a clinic. Please go to the hospital and keep me informed of how you're feeling." (as he rushed us out the door) No, we were not comped our meals. Now, to see if the owner will pay the $1,204.00 ER bill. This pratice is not only dangerous, but deceptive to certain religions. Review will be edited if the owner pays the ER bill.
EAT HERE!: One of the best resturants in East Texas! LOVE IT!
We'll keep coming back: This has always been "the place to go" for catfish or burgers (not to mention the complimentary beans!). The view is great, the restaurant is very casual, and the service is very friendly. Recently we went and tried some new items on the menu. The seafood gumbo was outstanding, probably the best we have ever had. Also the pecan-crusted tilapia is highly recommended. This has always been our favorite place to go and now we have a few more reasons, which never hurts.

I think that if I was allergic to shrimp-- I really do think that I would ALWAYS ask whether shrimp had been cooked with any of their other menu items (and in same oil, maybe?) BEFORE ordering. I think these people were just looking for an excuse to sue someone.
