Fort Bend Theater is a non-profit organization, founded in 1989 to provide family entertainment and education to children, teens and adults. The 80-seat theater is a cozy setting for good, clean fun for the entire family. Volunteers make the costumes and sets, and the casting is open for most productions. The theater staff also conducts classes in acting and musical theater. Call or check the website for schedule of plays and other events.
I am not one to normally write reviews but after seeing the unfair depiction of the director and the program at Fort Bend Theatre, I decided to do just that. My family has been involved at FBT for over 5 years because it IS a second family to us - and a second home to our son. There is no favoritism - and my son is not one that gets the lead - he is ensemble material. We have never been in an environment that is so positive and fair - and, most importantly, accepting of everyone involved. There are no "outsiders" at FBT. I have spoken recently with two other parents who said that their children's lives were changed by being involved with a fun, inviting, inclusive theater. Teens especially need to feel like they belong and this is the place! It is safe and nurturing and the people involved all get a great education - in the arts and in life. Yes, it can be a little disorganized - but it is a volunteer organization. I challenge anyone to find a place that is run 95% by volunteers that isn't a little disorganized from time to time. But there is no animosity - it is not even allowed! And there is no charge for being in a production - most other small theaters charge actors $100-500 for the priviledge of performing with them. FBT wants everyone who wants to participate to be able to regardless of financial issues. It is sad that one person gave such a negative review based on their own disappointment which has nothing to do with the theater directly. Please check out Fort Bend Theatre - the classes, the shows - you will be glad you did!!!!
Fort Bend Theatre is wonderful. There is a very unfair review that pops up on the Google Map site. It's unfortunate that someone's ego (a stage mom?) got in their way and caused them to take it out on a dedicated, gifted director and an organization which does amazing things on a shoestring. The director attracts incredible talents and puts on professional-grade shows, while keeping community children of all talents involved, training them in musical theatre at the same time--AT NO COST TO PARENTS!! This is the only area theatre to do this. There are incredibly high standards which result in incredibly good shows, so if your sensitive little child is not accustomed to higher standards or teaching, don't put them on this stage! If you do want to expose your children to quality, enteretaining theatre with morally high standards then try Fort Bend Theatre. If you want your minimally-talented child to get a lead part, there are plenty of places who will charge you for this privilege!
SO POLITICAL AND BIASED: If you are looking for a great opportunity to expose your kids to the arts, this is NOT the place. I have never met such an unprofessional director in all of my career, she has such a negative auora about her, and her comments to the children are just not necessary. Children who have been loyal constantly get passed over for someone new, who usually won't return to do another show because of her lack of organizational skills and unprofessionalism. I recommend readers find a theater that is better at teaching children that learning about the arts is educational as well as FUN!
