| About: | What's better than a fine, aged wine? How about a fine, aged steakhouse that serves prime, dry aged steaks. Where would one find such a unique combination? Located below the sidewalks of downtown Dallas at the 20 year Dallas icon, Dakota's Steakhouse. Sit back and take in the many decorative nuances that make Dakota's still one of the most romantic spots in Dallas. Outside the restaurant, the multi-level waterfall, the draping foliage and the black granite patio bar make dining outdoors a delight. Inside the restaurant, the New Orleans lamps and imported marble floors neatly package the classic theme. Chef Ted Grieb has added his personal touches to such dishes as the 16-ounce Bone Filet, Colorado Lamb Chops, Berkshire Pork Chop and the many seafood options. Great big Texas ambitions, but only moderate success. First off, the filet was delicious. Great steak. But after that, it seemed that none of their dishes quite fit the beautiful location. The SW interpretation of the Seafood Chowder wasn't. Tasty, but no spiciness. Being from New Mexico, I expected some heat. The seafood was tender though. The sides that came with the steaks included massive onion rings (of course, we're in Texas), only someone in the kitchen forgot to take off the outer onion paper layer. Oops. The garlic mashed potatoes should have been called the "Salted Mashed Potatoes". The field mushrooms were good. The wine list: They had some good selections, but the pricing wasn't realistic (way too high). The cappuccino came with a generous topping of cinnamon that could be smelled at the next table, so be prepared. The hostess was very welcoming, but the waiter was struggling. I think he was watching the ball game inside. Thank goodness this was on the company expense account. Be careful though, if you are trying to impress a client, they may get distracted by the many minor flaws that were evident in the food and service.
Have you ever been south of Austin? A small town of New Braunfels, Texas has a wonderful place on the Comal River named The Springs Seafood and Steakhouse. Its an absolutely beautiful place, open and casual. The food ranges from certified Black Angus meats, a select assortment of fresh seafood and wonderful salads. A short stroll downstairs and you will find two more full service bars and over 16,000 square feet of patio enjoyment over-looking the clear waters of the Comal River. A must see when in south-central Texas.
They have good steak but I dont think it can complete with cattlemen's in the Fort Worth Stockyards. I'm not saying Dakota's isnt good, Dakota's is excellent but I dont think its the best. Cattleman's has the best black angus rideye steak in the in the state and I've been to several steakhouses in Texas. From San Antonio, to Houston, to El Paso, and even Amarillo, I still think Cattlemen's is the best.

New to Texas... However i found Cattlemans Steak House in Stafford,Tx food was poor and over priced to high. Service was below pair. I do hope Tx has something better to offer in the way of a great steak.
you aren't from Texas are you??????
Thankyou for your honest opinion. Now let me get to tastin!
