| About: | The name says it all. Church Brew Works is a brewery in a renovated Catholic church. A copper kettle now sits where the altar once was and the stained-glass windows shine light on patrons swilling distinctive ales and lagers. The house brews are named in view of the unique environment: Pipe Organ Ale, Bell Tower Brown Ale and Pious Monk Dunkel. Patrons can also fill their stomachs with steak, pizzas, burgers and unique pierogie combinations. See website for menu, beer info, and photos of the restaurant's stunning interior. |

Definitely in the top 5 of places to get pizza in Pittsburgh. You can get just about anything on your pizza. While most food is American it is home cooking and excellent. But the beer! Great! There is nothing like a home brewed beer. You can get a smorgasbord of 6 or 8 beers. They are great.
Neat concept. Nice looking building.
Seemed a lot more uptight than I expected for a brew restaurant. Waiter was very stuffy and uptight.
Half of the lights were turned off at 4pm. When a family asked to be moved out of "the dark corner, or turn the lights back on," the manager told them that the lights would remain off because at 4pm the restaurant operates in "dinner mode."
With half of the lights off, the place is very dark. With all of the dark wood in the place, the only other colors were the stained glass windows.
Prices were reasonable and the food was of good quality.
Other than the uptight and formalness of the wait-staff, I had no problems.
Visited from out of town. Had to try it for the experience. After getting over the shock of being in a former church it was pretty good. The beers were excellent. The food was so so. They had a hard time cooking a steak medium well. It took three tries to get it right. They were nice enough to comp the steak though - so couldn't be too upset. I would go again and try something off of the pub menu instead of the dinner menu and enjoy the beer and atmosphere.
