Went in January of 09. There were about 30 of us from the Boyz Under the Hood car club!. We had our own little room in the back and they treated us wonderfully. The bread is great and the food is outstanding. We just made reservations again for Sept 09. Can't wait to eat there again!

3/9/08 - Let;s make it 3 1/2 stars. This restaurant has been under new ownership for about 2 years.

The new owners have done a wonderful job of turning this business around and even harder, keeping it that way. The quality of the food cannot be compared to the "old" establishment. It is consistently superior.

Their fish, especially their salmon, is absolutely delicious. Not only is it fresh, it's VERY fresh. As another reviewer noted, they know how to cook fish, too. Not all of us want a sushi-like dish when we order broiled fish - it should be cooked and they prepare their fish properly at JT's - a perfect medium grilling every time.

They will, of course, cook anything to your taste and are very accommodating in this regard.

Their clam chowder must be home made and is delicious. The cream base is not too thick to make it pasty; and it's clam chowder - NOT potato soup as you might experience and so many other restaurants.

Try their artichoke-spinach dip. Kudo's to their chef on this one. Instead of copying what the other restaurants prepare, he created something completely new and different. The dish is more of a souffle consistency; thick, rich and inclusive of the primary ingredients as well as onions, peppers and some brilliant use of spices; it's topped with a thin layer of cheddar and toasted; served with slices of their always-fresh French bread.

Their hamburgers are excellent and one of the best in the bay area. No kidding! They use an excellent quality ground beef and you can tell this from the first bite. Very fresh buns. And their french fries are made the way fries should be made: shoestring style and fried just to crispness. They are consistently the best fries you will eat, anywhere.

Very good salads. Their walnut-apple salad on a bed of Romaine is especially creative, tasty and fresh.

Their club sandwich is served on a non-greasy croissant, is VERY fresh and VERY good.

They offer a full bar and a decent selection of medium-quality wines and beer. You will be pleased.

Service? It can be, at times, a bit chilly. Mind you, the service is attentive, prompt and your're never lacking for anything . . . but one waitress in particular seems to always have a bee up her bonnet. I don't expect a waiter or waitress to go out of their way with friendliness - but it would be nice to feel like I didn't just somehow insult her entire family lineage - without so much as opening my mouth.

Downtown Martinez continues to evolve in a manner that is most welcome. There are a number of quality eating establishments in the downtown area; a magic-comedy dinner theatre and a drama theatre - both of which are excellent.

I include J.T. LaBeau's as a welcome addition. It is, in fact, a restaurant that would be successful anywhere.

    Sounds like J.T. wrote this ... our last visit, July 19 2008, was not a 3 1/2, maybe a 2 1/2 would be appropriate.
