The Stoney Inn is a great place in a prime location. The major misconception is that the Stoney Inn, because it is on the Boulevard, is in the Heights but it is actually in the Woodlake neighborhood surrounded by Enotria, a vintage ice rink, good restaurants, and art galleries. The bar itself appears fairly small from the outside. When you walk in, you continue to think that this is a very small dive bar. But then there's the back room, it consists of a restaraunt, many tables, and a big dance floor. Depending on what night you go, you can line dance, salsa dance, west coast swing or just chill and relax with some good food, live music with bands or karaoke which happens every night at 9pm regardless of what is going on in the back. The bartenders are so friendly and knowledgeable and the atmosphere is very welcoming. I met the owners the first time I walked into the place and they were very accommodating and friendly. And I hear that Kevin is a very accomplished two stepper. Personally, I love singing karaoke and I am a big fan of good karaoke places. I have since been a frequent visitor the Stoney Inn on almost every night and I found out that they have four different karaoke dj's with contrasting styles. There is one guy I like in particular, I'm not sure what night he is there, but he sings country and various other styles and is very good. He also is a very nice person and makes people feel welcome. Every one of the karaoke dj's are nice, but he is especially nice and is consistently cool to me. If someone knows his name, let me know, but I think it's Gerald. The food is awesome, and recently when I was there on a Tuesday, I bought $1 tacos. They also have a weekly karaoke contest where I hear that at the end of the year you win $1000. I feel very welcome here even though I don't necessarily fit the stereotype of someone who would usually go to a "country" bar which most nights it actually isn't. I find that when I come on Monday, I can sing as much as I want because apparently this place is still the best kept secret in Sacramento. I can't dance but I have been learning from the coolest dancing instructor on Friday nights. She is so nice and is a good instructor. I feel so comfortable and safe every time I go here and not only would I say this is the best bar I've been to in Sacramento, but out of everywhere I've lived, this is the best bar I've been to in the country. Get out here, people. This place rocks and not many people know this.
The stoney Inn appears to be a fun place. However when going to an establishment such as a country bar one would hope to have a chance to at least dance. In the case of Rockin Rodeo the floor is consistantly occupied by line dancers and two steppers. Every single song. This has become an all to reoccuring theme with most country western dance clubs. My opinion is it is too bad that Rockin Rodeo isn't big enough to split the dance floor or request that Line Dancing take place on another night, other than Friday or Satuday.
i love it: the place is great
