Full service, a dying breed... which is sad. You can order American and or Chinese and it is all good. You get rolls, crackers, and choices of soups. Prices are fairly low for what you get.
We used to always ask for Ben the server as he used to work at the Carmel Location and was very nice. However, over the years Ben seems to have gotten slower, and less attentive then he used to be and somewhat grouchy. The poor guy works day and night however, so we cut him some slack.
It is like going back in time eating there back when a restaurant was special and not commercialized, and am thankful it is still in operation.
Are you kidding me? This place is amazing. I am a young regular, I am there about once a week. My fiance and I go before we do our grocery shopping on Tuesdays! Our waiter, Albert, is amazing. it took 3 visits before he knew our order without us having to tell him. Granted, just like all professions, there are some good and some bad. I love the food. My fiance was a Manderin House lover until he went to Lotus with me. Please visit and ask for Albert, your service will be amazing and the food even better!
On Friday May 15, 2009 I took two of my daughters to eat at Lotus Garden for lunch around 1:30 PM. Our waiter's name was Ben. He was extremely rude to my daughters and I. First, when I asked if I could have a Cherry Coke, he said, "Only if you have the money to pay for it." I let that go and then the next incident occurred. My daughters ages 12 and 5, were eating Crunchy Chinese Noodles with their hands. Ben the waiter came over to my 5-year-old and started yelling at her and me! He said, "You can't eat with your hands! What are you an animal?!?" Then as he was trying to shove her spoon in her hand to get her to "eat like a human" he began yelling at me, asking why I was allowing my child to eat like an animal in public?
For one, that man had NO right to put his hands on my daughter! Who doesn't eat Crunchy Chinese Noodles with their hands? I am 32-years-old and I know I do! When I went to speak with the lady at the front desk/cashier (she is Caucasian) she acted like she didn't know what to do. Not once did she apologize to me or my daughter. I specifically told her that I didn't want Ben to continue waiting on us and to please keep him away from us the remainder of our meal. I walked back to my seat and Ben comes up to the table within a minute going on about how it was his fault. He kept coming around us too after I had made my request clearly audible to the cashier as well as Ben the waiter.
My family and I have been going here since I was a child. It was my favorite Chinese resteraunt and now I will never eat there again! No child should ever be treated that way, ever! Cultural differences or not! DON'T EAT AT LOTUS GARDEN IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN!!!!!!

If you are referring to my review with your "are you kidding me?" remark, you obviously don't have any children. Any place of business who allows their employees to treat any customers like the way my 5-year-old was treated is not a business worthy of patronage, regardless of how good the food is!
