DO NOT go to Dr. Peggy unless you can handle an extremely rude office management staff. The actual vet, Dr. Peggy, is qualified, caring, generous with her time, and thorough in her explanations, but you will ALWAYS have to deal with her often rude, self-righteous, argumentative, and unprofessional staff (e.g., Laura). My husband and I tried to transfer vets from Dr. Glasser to Dr. Peggy, because Dr. Glasserâs pay scale had become unaffordable. We were not willing to bring our older, dying cat in to see Dr. Peggy, because he had just been examined five months earlier by Dr. Glasser. After careful review of Dr. Glasserâs records that we had forwarded to Dr. Peggy, Dr. Peggy agreed that no further testing was needed at this time and she offered additional insight into Dr. Glasserâs examination. She suggested that we try a low-protein moist food for our cat, but after letting us sample a can, she suddenly said the only way she would prescribe the food is if we brought our older cat in for further testing. Talk about bait and switch!!! My husband and I have already spent $1500 this year on vet bills and special food for our ailing cat and as you can imagine, we donât want our older cat to suffer any more needless testing as he hates visiting the vet. Dr. Peggyâs staff hung up the phone several times on my husband and/or me once we requested our records be returned to us. Ironically, we had already scheduled an annual check up for our younger cat with Dr. Peggy, Dr. Peggy would make money on selling us the prescription cat food, and we had promised to euthanize our older cat at her office at the appropriate time. Our hearts were broken by her rude staff and their uncalled for harsh manner. We are suffering enough knowing that we are about to lose our 17-year-old baby and what we needed most was compassion and respect for our budget, especially in these rough economic times. Please note, after numerous polite and then ultimately forceful requests to get our catsâ medical records returned to us, Dr. Peggy FINALLY mailed our records back to us. The postage date on the envelope revealed that the records were never actually mailed out until we had been pushed to raise our voices on the phone. No one should be pushed to such extremes. Moral of story: (1) It is very difficult to transfer vets and one must be wary of financial exploitation via unnecessary tests and office visits and (2) GOOD customer service from veterinary staff is essential. Dr. Peggyâs staff desperately needs etiquette training!!! You CAN do better in Western Queensâ¦please do yourself a favor and donât waste your time at this vet.
Dr. hatz and staff are excellent. They are so caring and geniune. These are real pet people. I trust them. This is place is not clinical; you probably won't be impressed w/ the look of the office. Very simple. the receptionist is very nice once you get to know her. She is a typical Queens person. She is a real New Yorker. (Love it or leave it. The problem today are that there are too few real NYERs left! People move here from whereever, whocares. They are not NY and Astoria is filled w/ these annoying imports.) anyway ... it is great place w/ NY charm. You will not get ripped off here like many other places. The Dr. Knows her limits and will refer you out if necessary. My cat was very sick with all types of problems ... adopted from ASPCA
Money was an issue for us; we could not afford 5000 MRI & cat scans to find out what was wrong. Dr. H understood and treated the symptoms which gave us some more time w/ our beloved cat. When we finally had to put him to sleep, Dr. H & staff were so caring. They give us time w/ my cat after he was put to sleep. Watched the whole process and was allowed to grieve afterwards... like a mini wake.
this place is great!
This veterinary clinic took adequate care of our cat. However, for paying such high prices, the receptionist/assistant was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. Condescending and otherwise completely devoid of any personality, she has inspired us to seek medical attention for our pet at the lovely clinic just around the corner. She may like animals, but needs some SERIOUS work on her people skills. Yelling on the phone at a customer is highly unacceptable.

Which clinic do you go to now? I'm looking for a good vet in queens that won't kill or harm my dog in any way during the process of neutering him.
I called to make an appointment today. I totally agree with Catfan about the receptionist. I don't think I will patronize this place because of this horrific first contact.
We have been taking our dog to this vet for over a year and this receptionist is the RUDEST, nastiest person I have ever encountered. I love the vet herself, but if she wants people to continue to bring their pets to her, she should fire that horrible woman at the front desk. What a miserable person!!!
