Casey's has been a favorite for over 10 years...stopped in during the Halloween 09 wknd for lunch and we were really disappointed. Service was okay, but the food quality was not anywhere near the excellent standards that Casey's has always been known for. Not really sure if we'll try again next time in Galveston. Too many other choices in town.
I have been coming to Galveston for close to 20 years and I have been eating at Casey's this whole time. We would eat there some times twice daily and would stay for a week and eat at Casey's at least once daily. We were there several months ago and I was so disappointed. Last year, we ordered our usual salads with our meals and they had took the croutons off the salads and we were told by the waitress that they took them off for the cost. I was thinking how much could croutons possibly cost. This year we came and there was no bread which was our favorite part of coming to Casey's. I asked the waitress about the bread and she said they didn't give it anymore. I asked about buying the bread and they said it was not there anymore. I have always loved the fact that Casey's employed foreign students but the last few times the waiters and waitresses were not knowledgeable about the items served and forgot orders. We use to come in and we always would sit in Bryan's section and our service was exceptional as was the food, but I can't say that anymore and it is very sad to me.
Dinner there last night was the worst in memory. Fish fajitas, and it was clear no-one there had any idea what fajitas were supposed to be: tortillas out of a Walmart bag (only flour), the waiter had never heard of pico de gallo, the fish was soggy rather than crisp, the guacamole frothy and served in a miniscule serving, the wine was barely drinkable and overpriced ($9) -- altogether a very unsatisfactory experience. We live on Galveston Island, and there are precious few decent restaurants to choose from: another one got crossed off the list yesterday.

I don't know if this casey's is owned by the same one in Longview Tx. But if it is I understand Johnny Casey died not long ago. I knew Mr. Casey from Longview and he would have never made the changes you described. One of his waitresses was the mother of my best friend in Longview. She told me he died less than a year ago. If he was the same owner that would explain alot.
