From 2 years to 4 years the Montessori method focuses more on material and education which will develop concentration and coordination. The basics such as the alphabet, phonics, numbers and colors are taught daily. A strong emphasis is also placed on helping the child attain independence and being able to have self reliance. This admirable trait extends to the child's home, where he/she is able to help with chores and other practical life activities. From 4 years to 6 years the main objective is to give the child a strong foundation in reading, writing and mathematics. With a solid background in these subjects, the child is highly likely to succeed when he/she enters the public school system.
