Ever since O'Neil's was bought out a few years ago, it has been consistently going down hill as far as having printed music available. They seem to focus on band rentals, and instrument sales (mainly electronic instruments). This is the only store in the area that carries musical scores, and many local music teachers rely on it to have the materials that they need. I, along with all of the other local music teachers, have been let down time after time when I go there looking for the music that I need. They do not stock a very wide range of music, and they do not re-order promptly when a stocked item runs out (it may be months before the item is restocked!).
They also fail miserably on special orders. I have ordered music from O'Neils that either never comes in, or takes 3 weeks or more. I usually give up and order directly from the publisher, and I receive the music in 1 week.
I will never place orders for music through O'Neil's again, and I will only purchase music there when I have no other choice.
O'Neil's used to be a place that music teachers could count on to keep regularly stocked items in stock, and to place special orders promptly (and to call when the order comes in)...but now, it seems, that they no longer care about good customer service. It really is a disgrace the extent to which they have let the local community of music teachers down.

I am so surprise to see the above negative review. About 3 years ago, I started the study of the piano and I have found the store and especially the staff to be very helpful and courteous and I did also order music books and CDs and received their phone call at my home on time within one week as they said they would. I think we're lucky to have O'Neil's Music Store in our neighborhood and we should encourage them rather than criticize them. Some of us do not realize that they became so impatient that they want everything to come at them at the clasp of the fingers. Let us be happy with what we have and enjoy it!
As a former employee, private instructor, and now current music teacher, I must admit that this buisness has changed so dramatically that it is not even funny. I helped the store move to its current location and was one of the many people that not only loved working there, but enjoyed meeting the musicians and teachers that made the store function. Once the store was resold, it was clear to me that music instruction was not important, and nor did they care about customers. The new owner has no quams about ruining what took 35 years for a family to build since he had no stake in what had been built. I cannot and will not step foot in either their store or the parent company. I do not endorse their buisnesses to my students. This is very unfortunate since this was probably the best music store in southern maryland. It is just a sad story of people getting greedy all around.
