We've know Joel for many years but have never taken our small animals there because we lived a ways away. We recently moved closer, however the drive was still prohibitive and continued with a local vet. Until we had addition bladder issues with our cat, Miramax. Our local vet wanted $900 for the surgery. My wife made a call to Big Creek and found out the same surgery was $600. Normally I don't look for the cheapest medical service, but we trust Joel to only employ the best staff. Miramax did great and Joel provided extra service during the procedure at no additional cost. Since, we have switched all of our animals there and continue to love all of the staff. We could drive 15 minutes to the local vet, but why when Big Creek doesn't nickle and dime you to death with extra charges, the staff is always pleasant, and they treat your pet like a family member. We will continue to drive 45 minutes for the best vet in the area. Can't wait for the new facility to open in 2010.
Dr. Neate was excellent, and the rest of the staff that I encountered were very pleasant to both me and my dog. I called to request an appointment ASAP because we're from out of town, and they were able to see us the next morning. Dr. Neate was extremely thorough in explaining a treatment plan to me, and treated my dog with care. I've been to doctors that seemed indifferent to my pet, but this experience was just the opposite. Additionally, because my dog is a pit bull I have to be prepared for looks of disapproval from some people who don't understand why these dogs are special, and at Big Creek my girl was treated with the same affection as the other pets there. Finally, I have to comment on the price! I was prepared for an outrageous bill which I have become accustomed to from my vet at home, but the bill I received was very reasonable. I left with a smile on my face not only because they provided outstanding service, but also because I didn't have to spend hundreds of dollars. If I lived here I would definitely continue to go to this clinic. (No, I'm not an employee or a relative, just a really satisfied client. I think they deserve some praise for a job well done.)
We had one of our cats, Enrique', suffer a broken leg. We had taken him to Big Creek initially and the vet was very kind and thorough. Unfortunately, he severed the neurological control of his bowel and bladder function. Enrique' received antibiotic and antiinflammatory meds when we were in the hopeful phase. After 2 days of hospital care, his bowel & bladder function did not return. We chose to have him put to sleep. The vet was very patient and professional. They even gave me a cardboard casket to bury him in. I haven't received the bill yet. That's the only reason I did not give them 5 stars. It's only been 2 days. I highly recommend them and plan to return for any other pet concerns. Also, maybe the staff (not the vet) could be more welcoming and personable.
