I was one of the neighbors. They originally promised to fix it; but did not. They said that both driveways should be sealed: they sealed one, but decided to not seal the other. They did not say why, we did ask. The surfaces of both driveways were badly crazed.

Sorry, but I cannot recommend Conlee Ed Sons Concrete for residential work.

Ed Conlee Sons Concrete, Inc, Brimfield; sorry, no, I would not recommend them for residential work.

I was one of a handful of homeowners in Lynnhurst subdivision who had concrete work done by them at the same time. The last day they were here, they finished the last two driveways. These two driveways took weeks to dry, all were dumbfounded, Conlee had never seen this before. (So you thought it was right?) Later only these two driveways crazed badly. My guess, it was a hot-load of concrete, improper for the temperature of the day. No one, not even Conlee could figure out why these 2 driveways weren't drying when others previous days work had been normal. Bonded? Think again. Found out that their "bonding" had nothing to do with work on a driveway, just city easements. Unfortunately, the city of Peoria, has no residential concrete standards to enforce, although had this been a city project, the city inspector told me he would not have accepted it. On one of the properties, steel bars were drilled into old concrete, so the joint didn’t move where new concrete joined old concrete. When winter came the new concrete rose over an inch.. Either the reinforced steel bars, every 12 inches gave out, or the concrete failed underneath. A very disappointed customer in Peoria.

    (1) Web Resource for Custom Concrete Workmanship: “The crazing comes from bleed water that was sealed under the surface of the concrete by premature finishing. Although engineers generally agree that crazing presents no durability problems, it can be unsightly, especially when wet.” (2) State Standards for Concrete, item 13, concerning crazing.. a. Possible Deficiency Excessive crazing of finished exterior concrete surfaces. Acceptable Tolerance: None. Contractor Responsibility: Contractor should make necessary repairs. (3)International Concrete Repair Institute, with 21 US Chapters describes "crazing" as one of the ten common slab surface DEFECTS, with causes/prevention/repair.
