I am very disappointed and very upset with my service at Cafe Savannah. I ordered paella anticipating the toasted layer from the pan and was disappointed when it was placed in front of me. In front of me was a bowl of rice that looked like Minute Rice, loaded with saffron and little chicken, little clams, no chorizo, no onions, no bell peppers, and at the bottom of the plate was saffron/clam juice that had not been absorbed. Where was the toasty crust from the paella pan that a person looks forward to when ordering paella? I let my server know of my disappointment. She was very pleasant and said that she would get the manager. When he finally came to my table, he looked as though I was wasting his time. I said, "I am sorry, but my paella is soupy. Is it possible to have it cooked more?" Manager said, "No. Paella is soupy. If you want it to be absorbed, you need to tell your server before it is ordered." RUDE. Basically, I heard, "I am not going to waste my cooks time with you. AND you are still going to see it on the bill." Of all of the paellas that I have eaten, I have never had a soupy paella until this occasion. And that will be the first and last time that I do.

I don't know where you have been in Spain but from someone that lives there.... PAELLA IS NOT SOUPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND YES IT HAS A TOASTED LAYER FROM THE PAN IF IT IS DONE THE RIGHT WAY.
AND, YES I'M FROM SPAIN NOT MEXICO
Paella is not suppose to be or have a crunchy layer. You may be thinking of a dish from Mexico, however these menues and items are from Spain. The owner/ manager is wonderful, and maybe he did think you are wasting his time.... chances are unless you've been eating Paella from a Spanish place... meaning food from SPAIN, you probally was wasting his time. Paella is suppose to be juicy and flavorfull, and it has been each and every time my husband and I have been there.
I dined here for the first time last weekend. The atmosphere is trendy, the artist of the month is amazing as is the music..BUT...the light brown curly haired waitress was excellent. She was prompt with my service and always had a smile on here face. She was patient when I purused through the menu and while selecting a wine. The food and the service are both excellent. I recommend everyone to come try this place.
I have a love/hate relationship of this place right now.. I would be reluctant to recommend this place let alone visit again.
Good: The owner suggested a fantastic wine, I absolutely love the concept of a tapas and wine. Downtown location, decent selection of wine. An artist friend of mine loved the art in the resturant.
The owner noticed a friend of mine was coughing from the chile, and quickly without asking brought a bit of soda water for her.. Now thats service.!
Bad: Where do i begin?
- Orders were not completed and service was generally slow and uninspiring. Our first order of the evening was incomplete. The second order was literally forgotten. And the third was also forgotten. Even the owner apologized to me for all the mistakes.
- Cooking techniques/presentation. On friday, I had lunch there and ordered shrimp, it was _way_ overcooked. The next day I went there, the shrimp was overcooked. Frustrating to say the least. I have a problem with plating consistency, the main tapas boat was nice however other dishes were not plated as nice.
I like this place but it really let me down the last few times i've visited.
