I absolutely LOVE Abuelo's! The restaurant is beautiful greeting one with a lovely fountain as they walk inside, and features a ceiling painted like the sky (the way you find it at the Venetian or Cesar's Palace in Las Vegas). The service is usually very friendly. One can come in and out easily but the atmosphere is so nice that anytime we (Husband, Family, Friends) go there, we just want to relax after dinner and stick around a little longer.
My favorite dishes are the Quesadilla al Horno (defenitely not the normal quesadilla) and the Banderillas (skewers). My favorite sides are their Papas con Chile, which are like mashed potatoes with peppers, cheese, and other stuff in it. They sound a bit weird, but that combined with the refried beans is wonderful. I also love Charro beans which are fresh beans seasoned.
If you like seafood, my husband usually gets the Pescado Guerrero. It is wood grilled mahi mahi with shrimp, scallops, mushrooms, spinach, roasted peppers, and avocodo all in a white wine sauce.
Also, you MUST try their margaritas! I have to at least have one everytime I go. I like mine on the rocks with salt.
If you have room for dessert, we just tried the desert nachos; they are cinnamon chips with ice cream, whipped cream, caramel and chocoloate. It's a large dessert plate to share.
I go to Abuelos all the time, and can't stop going back. I was just there last night, to be exact!
Happy Eating!
We love Mexican food! In NWA you will find there are many different Mexican Food Restaurants to choose from. We decided on Abuelo's this weekend. We were greeted in a timely manner and seated promptly. Our waiter was pleasant and on top of things. Overall the atmosphere was great, one thing to note; I did not feel the menu items were very "Authentic". I gave 3/5 stars due to prices, authenticity, and selection.
Nothing to write home about: There is much better Mexican food available elsewhere in NW Arkansas...
Atmophere is quite good but service is uneven...We waited over 30 minutes for our food in a non peak time.
