I visit N Idaho once a year in summer and when I get hungry I always visit Rose Lake Restaurant. The food is excellent as well as the rustic atmosphere. Service is great also. People are very friendly in N. Idaho. If you go there ask for Bobbie she runs the place and can cook up quite a storm for you. Can't wait to go back!

Worth the extra drive for lunch: I spent 30 years in the Restaurant industry and have been often disappointed as my wife and I try new places.
But this one was worth the extra drive for lunch.
We expected from the exterior to find your typical rustic, overly dark interior but were greatly surprised that while it was a wood interior, it was all light woods and well lighted and clean to boot.
The server was prompt and courteous, offering the daily special and drinks. She checked back occasionally throughout the meal, although not nearly as much as to the tables with people who she knew, but kept our water well filled and gave enough attention to deserve a tip. ( I feel a server or cook or whatever must earn a gratuity, it isnt automatic, they are being paid a wage like everyone else in the establishment and dont feel they deserve any more money then the man who washes the dishes..unless they earn it)
A wide variety on the menu from your standard chicken fried steak to home made mexican food. The food was good, with enough homemade flare to make it unique but normal enough not to scare off the jumpy and squeamish. Decent portions, not relying on an overabundance to make it seam as though you were well fed, but also not so little that you wish you had ordered the salad bar.
The overall cost (including tip), the service, the food, all added up to a great value and a definate must try again.
