From the folks who brought you Galway Bay comes another winner in - Davidsonville? Yup. Friendly staff, excellent food and a casual, unfussy ambiance make this almost a mini-vacation. The Celtic music is soft and upbeat, adding to the relaxed feeling. This is not the typical faux-Irish beer mill, but a topnotch casual fine dining destination.
We found Killarney House on our GPS after finishing a gig nearby, and were starving. The shrimp and crab dip did not disappoint. Served in a bread bowl with carrot and celery sticks, we needed more bread to do it justice. And the bread we got was a classic Irish soda bread, solid and meaty without being heavy or dry.
Lunch arrived in the form of wonderful fish and chips, the best I've had on this side of the Atlantic. generous portions of batter-fried Cod were juicy and tender, not dry and overcooked as in most places. The chips were a tad heavy, but still very fresh.
The Seafood Pot Pie is wonderful: a stew really, full of scallops, clams, shrimp, crab meat, mussels and salmon in a piquant tomato base, served in a crock and topped with a feather-light puff pastry.
Bread pudding for dessert looked small but was plenty for two. Again, it was fresh, not too heavy, with a robust sauce that made u want to try the rest of the desserts.
It may be out of the way for most Washingtonians (and Annapolitans, for that matter), but Killarney House is well worth the trip.
Absolutely terrific! The outside makes you wonder if you want to go in - kind of run-down looking. But GO INSIDE. We did and we've been back. It is wonderful. The staff is happy, open, welcoming, and on top of their game. We talked with one of the young owners - from Dublin - who takes time to make friends and oversees the operation with interest, care, and a smile. Discovered they are redoing the outside so in the future it will be more inviting. But inside, the ambiance and the food are first class. It has become one of our favorite restaurants. The fish and chips and other Irish specialties are incredibly good. Go there!
