I went to Capt Pete's during vacation. The service was absolutely terrible. We came in with a group of 12 and were told the wait would be 20 minutes. After 5 minutes we got passed over by a larger group that just walked in. The hostess then ignored us after yet another group got seated before us. For a family atmosphere I would not recommend it. The bar was right at the door so as soon as you walk in your children get to see that. The staff was rude for the short period of time that we were there. Walking in to all the drunks is not something you want to subject your children to. I would not recommend this to anyone that wants to dine in a family atmosphere.
We eat here at least a couple of times a year:
Food is very good, best in the area.
Value is fair as the prices have moved up quite a bit from the past.
Atmosphere is pretty vanilla.
Service once you are seated is very good, but beware that you can easily have an hour wait in the summer (no reservations).
Getting drinks at the bar is tough as Shawn (hard working barkeep) is overwhelmed - needs help in the summer prime weeks, but has never had it? Better order two drinks for all in your party if you are up to it!
Well worth the high price. Food is excellent. Good place for tourists since it is on the water. We locals know that the food is the real draw.

Did the people that came in after you have reservations? If not, I would surely not like to visit a restaurant that clearly does not employ folks with good Southern manners and upbringing! Maybe the owners aren't from around here, and are ignorant of respect and civility.
