| About: | Owners Maguy and Gilbert LeCoze came to New York from Paris in 1986 to establish this elegant restaurant for the sole purpose of cooking and preparing fish dishes. At the time, few could have predicted their incredible success; but every year since, the restaurant has received the highest ratings by food critics. Even when Gilbert died and was succeeded by Chef Eric Ripert, the love and dedication with which each dish was prepared continued unabated. Although exceedingly expensive, there is nothing else quite like this modern French restaurant. |

I have been to Le Bernardin twice for dinner. It's pricey, but well worth every penny! It is truly my favorite restaurant in New York, probably the United States (and believe me, I'm a foodie!). Where should I start? The service is completely flawless, the food is absolutely amazing, concentrating on seafood. The room is gorgeous with a minimalist, tranquil type space. I sometimes think of the food and my mouth waters. Extremely fresh seafood....soft, simple, yet explosive flavors in your mouth. I have no idea how they do it. Sometimes many restaurants have overwhelming sauces with overpowering flavors that may linger in your mouth for the next dish (I make an effort with what I order and what my palate will do for the next dish)....every dish that I have had at Le Bernardin is superb. The sommelier was extremely knowledgable and very friendly. Both visits to Le Bernardin were stellar and we can't wait for another special occasion excuse to go back! =) I highly, highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion: weekday fine dining (if your pocket can handle it), fine dining out with friends, and special occasion meals, special dates.
Nothing can top it!: My wife and I visit NYC at least 3 times a year and one pilgrimage that we always make is back to Le Bernadin. We typically like to try the best restaurants and have visited the likes of Daniel & Jean George etc. however when it comes to the overall experience of a restaurant Le Bernadin wins hands down.
I would recommend getting the tasting menu (either Chef's or seasonal) with the wine pairing. The portions are exact and timing between courses perfect to allow for an enjoyable evening. The pairing seem made for the course.
The service is solid with the waiters allowing for as much or little interaction as you want.
The old adage of you get what you pay for is accurate when it comes to Le Bernadin. Simply the best.
disappointed: I went in with a great expectation, and came out with a disappointment.
