About:	Billed as Buffalo's premier alternative theater, the New Phoenix, which first opened its doors in 1996, offers both interpretations of classic productions, as well as new and innovative contemporary productions. Located in an 1885 building in Buffalo's Johnson Park neighborhood, it was once home to Ebenezer Johnson, Buffalo's first mayor. The building had fallen into disrepair and figuratively rose from the asheslike the legendary phoenixwhen it was renovated by the theater company.
