I've been a State College resident for over 20 years, and Irving's has always been part of the scene. I eat their food, and drink their coffee, on a regular basis.

I'd give them a 5-star review, except for two things which continue to nag at me.

First off, it's all about the waiting. I can order a gourmet sandwich, which requires assembly, and therefore (understandably) some prep time. I might order a specialty coffee drink, which requires brewing, blending, whipping and/or foaming. A 10-minute wait is acceptable and expected.

However, most often I order items that are apparently much more complex in nature: namely, a bagel with cream cheese, and a cup of coffee. I've experienced wait times in excess of 20 minutes, although I was in the restaurant during off-peak hours. In addition, my order has been somehow lost ("we don't seem to have a number sixty-seven!") on several occasions.

Reason Number Two is about the enormous menu board, located directly above the cashiers'/order-takers' heads. The prices listed on it are not current. And of course, most of the prices are wrong on the low side. While I'm waiting to be served, I can pick out what I want to order, and do some quick arithmetic in my head; this way, when the time comes to pay for my food, I can be ready with pretty close to exact change (hey! it's my lunch break, and I'm in a hurry. I try to save as many seconds as I can).

When the cashier tallies my total, I'm off by anywhere from 20 cents to a dollar. I've based my total on POSTED MENU PRICES, whereas the cashier has based his/her total on MYSTERY PRICES THAT THE CUSTOMER CAN'T SEE. Of course, I pay in full, and proceed to the "waiting area" (discussed above) to obtain my food.

I've gone so far as to point out the menu price discrepancies to my cashier---as recently as this morning, in fact---but to date there has been no action taken. If it'll help, I have a ladder I'd be glad to lend you guys.

Good food: this is a great place to have brunch or meet with a friend! great bagels and smoothies

great customer service: calling from out of town, service was very polite and professional... nice variety and prompt delivery
