| About: | When you think of a typical, road side ice house and you don't picture the West Alabama Ice House, then stopping by is an imperative so you can see what an real ice house is. Located just East of Shepherd, this open air bar provides simplicity in its offerings, and that is what makes the joint so successful. If you want beer, if you want to visit, if you want to sit on a picnic table and watch commuters struggle by wistfully looking in, maybe some live music and a hot-dog, then this is definitely the place. -Richard Hannah |

First ever to go to this place I saw Opie Hendrix play. They had animals and kids there. It was amazing. I never thought of an Ice House as somewhere you could take your animals and kids but everyone was having a great time.
A Houston Tradition: I love stopping here in the middle of the day for a cold beer and some friendly conversation. If I'm walking the dog, this is a great place to stop.
dog friendly pub, what else could one ask for?: this place is a houston legend. i used to really frequent the AIH when i lived nearby with my german shepherd, it was the ONLY PLACE i felt welcome to stop in after a long walk with my dog-- i could have a beer & hang out with other NORMAL, non-pretentious/non-materialistic barbies, WITH my dog!!!. NORMAL people hanging out to have a drink with other NORMAL people, dogs or not, but VERY dog friendly. AIH is SO welcoming, it's beyond GREAT. now that i live somewhat of a distance from AIH, i still don't mind the drive out- it's a neighbourhood pub in a metropolitan area. no, we don't WALK per-say here like we do in europe, but the atmosphere is as welcoming as a local. i love it!
