My husband and I have been fans of Gringo's for quite a while now. I've seen the best of service and the worst as well. We just visited the Stafford restaurant 6/14/09. The service was very good, with one exception. Initially we were very pleased with the speed at which we were served. However, we also felt that once we had taken what appeared to the server to be our last bite, that we were being rushed to leave as well. The restaurant was not all that busy, so I was puzzled at the rush to clear our table and get us out the door. Aside from that, the service was very good. The food was also very good. I had the Cozumel Chicken Salad and it was wonderful, especially with the Amazon dressing. Gringo's green dip, which is brought with a red sauce and the complimentary chips, is a signature item and we usually enjoy it. However, this time it was the best that it has ever been. It was smooth, thick and cool and very tasty. We truly enjoyed our dinner. I would recommend Gringo's.
BEWARE! Regular customer POISONED apparently for not tipping on take out orders!!!
My daughter use to love Gringo's and often took friends and relatives there for sit down meals. She was also in the habit of going in at least once a week after work for a take out meal. She is a BIG tipper at sit down meals, but doesn't feel the need for tipping for one take home meal. She almost always orders one favorite and high priced meal for her take out. Usually the staff is very friendly and most know her after all this time.
I was appalled when recently she became very ill after a Gringo's meal. She told me that when the young staffer, with whom she has always been friendly, brought her usual TO GO meal she looked at her strangely and very sarcastically said, "It's just the way you like it." That was pretty odd, but not as odd as the food which turned out to have an unusual, bitter taste. Shortly, after managing to eat part of it, my daughter became VIOLENTLY ILL and it lasted all night!
Later, after recovering, she was filing her receipts and noticed that the same staffer had added $1.00 to the charge ticket of the poisoned meal... reinforcing the fact that she was angry about the lack of tipping on my daughter's take outs!
BEWARE! BESIDES POISONING THE FOOD... THEY ARE ALSO CAPABLE OF ADDING TO YOUR CHARGE TICKET WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE!
This place is awesome!!! Great food and service. Drinks are the bomb.. Everyone should try it. The prices are very reasonable..
