| About: | This chic restaurant located on Wisconsin Avenue serves contemporary Indian food with an English touch to it. The anglicized Indian cuisine is cooked with the freshest of ingredients available. Executive Chef Chris Payton uses authentic Indian recipes and brings about certain alterations to suit international tastes. Thus the names of the dishes are also not so Indian. You'll find dishes like chicken Chennai and beef vindaloo. They also have a take out menu. If you need to organize a social gathering, Curry Club will come to your aid. |

Curry flavored stew: This restaurant is very small, and noisy, very noisy; one would never guess how much the main course is judging by the entrance and the dirty and steep stairs to the dining area. But twenty dollars for what amounts to a lamb stew, and eighteen dollars for dry, overcooked microwaved chicken chunks in a generic curry sauce? Although the shrimp did meet with greater approval, it was still overpriced for what you get. The chutney was basically mango pieces with no particular flavor added.
The menu is very limited, and the service is indifferent.
Do yourself a favor, for much better Indian food, for a better price and for much quieter and nicer surroundings, jog up a couple of blocks to Heritage India.
Not what I'd expect from an Indian Place: Modern decor, a 'hip' atmosphere, and very personal attention from management (certainly a function of the size - ten tables) led me to believe that, perhaps, the food wouldn't taste particularly authentic. I was generally mistaken. The curry dishes are outstanding - as is the gazpacho soup and the sweet pea fritters.
Drawbacks? A bit pricey (duh...it's in Georgetown) and the service could have been better (our waitress seemed a bit out of it).
