A sleeper deal: We had a Sunday dinner at Violet, which happens to be the night of the week when they have a 3-course price-fixed dinner for $25; for an additional $10, you can have the bottom glass of accompanying wine. This meal turned out to be a hit. Our courses were: carrot & orange soup or goat cheese salad; duck confit risotto or rock shrimp hash; and grilled pineapple with vanilla sorbet. Every dish, whose portion was modest, was delicious, but the winners for the evening were the soup and the hash. Both has amazing flavors. We also had a couple of appetizers - notably the macaroni & cheese. It was nice to see Jared, the owner, out & about in the dining room, helping out as needed. Overall, it was quality food at a reasonable price (about $50 a person.) I definitely want to return to this restaurant!
small plates, big flavor: i unabashedly love small plates restaurants, and violet may be one of my favorites. they have a reasonable menu and nightly specials (so you can add to the variety). my only complaint is they don't offer quite enough wines by the glass.
my bf and i ordered 5 dishes between the two of us and would happily order any of them again. portions were perfect for sampling between two diners (for a larger party, you would probably want to double up on dishes) especially ones like the heavenly seared scallops with vanilla risotto (yum!) which i would gladly hog all to myself.
dessert was equally wonderful, and we can't wait to come back during one of their specials--either the sunday night 3 course dinner w/bottomless glass of wine (a bargain $35) or the $7 before 7 menu on tuesday, wednesday and thursday.
Amazing New Place: Fantasitc food all the way through. Less expensive than some other high quality places on Westside (e.g. Jiraffe, etc...). Highly recommend to anyone.
