FANTASTIC DINNER - IMPRESS YOUR DATE: The archives restaraunt features buffet style meals, in a very elegant and luxurious dining style. Its alot like the high class restaraunts except it is more casual. Basically, after coming from church (for breakfast) or taking a date out dressed casually, you'll fit in just fine.
The food is fantastic. Their are gourmet salads, gourmet pastas, gourmet breakfast food like hash browns and sausages. When their is seafood on the men, there are shrimp for cocktails, seafood salads and even lobster tails.
The food is served with luxurious cutlery and nice glassware similar to that used in the expensive restaraunts.
As for desert, you can't argue with buffet cheesecake and buffet ice cream and tarts. If your really hungry and want to wine and dine a date, this place is spectacular!
The prices are on the high side (above $20 a person) because you are paying for impeccable service. The waiters basically only need get your refills on soda and ordered champaine - mixed drinks, but you will still need to leave them a 15% tip or whatever you think they deserve.
For the alcoholics out there, there is a sports bar with a plasma tv and lots of great wines/liquors to drink your problems away.
This is a great place for family dinners and a great place to bring someone you love.
My only complaint is that this restaraunt is inside the Mariott Hotel. This means that most of the time, the place will be crowded in the mornings (especially sunday) and you may need to make reservations.
Another downside is that the restaraunt does not have its own parking lot or reserved spaces. In this crowded area of Brooklyn, that is a pain.
I do feel however, that the hotel settings gives the Archives a more luxurious backdrop. Business brunches feel especially "lavish" here.
Other recommendations are MASTER GRILL at college point boulevard, Flushing and PACIFIC WORLD, on queens Blvd.
