Far overpriced.
Stayed for a company benefit. My company paid for us to spend a night at the Gaylord and see the Murder Mystery Dinner Theater. Well, here's what I experienced.
The good:
The dinner theater was very entertaining. The food was very good as well. Buffet style, but still tasted very nice.
The bad:
The room, King size bedroom, was not at all worth the $269 per night price. I've stayed at Comfort Suites and had better looking rooms. The bathroom was so small.
Nothing extravagant about the room at all and definitely not worth the price.
Parking is not free. $12.00 for day parking, $21 (I believe) for overnight parking, and $25 for valet.
There is a hotel fee? of like $15. They use this to charge you for the newspaper you get and a couple other normal things you get at other hotels for free.
Roomservice is EXPENSIVE, which I can kind of understand, cause it's always expensive, but $6 for a glass of orange juice? And crappy orange juice at that?
All drinks at any of the bars are highly overpriced. I'm talking $30 for a sixpack worth. $5.75 for a beer. (Miller light!?!?)
The Ugly:
The bars "pre-authorize" your card for whatever amount they pick, and then charge your card for whatever amount you owe. So, in the long run, you are missing from your account, both the amount you actually owed PLUS whatever they "pre-authorized" on your card. AND it takes somewhere near a whole week to get that to drop off your account.
ALSO, in my case specifically, the room was to be charged to our company credit card. Somehow they screwed that up as well and charged MY card. I've had to call to get it credited back to my account, which is supposed to take 3 days. All because of their incompetence.
Overall, for the "Prestige" of the Gaylord, it's fancy looking and makes you wonder at the HUGE Gazebo thing but really... it's all overpriced for such a mundane hotel. If you want a fancy hotel that meets expectations, stay at the W in Dallas!
I am sitting with my husband tonight watching I Love You, Man; being a great movie it strikes a bad memory of this hotel. I was on my honeymoon with my husband and we were looking for a nice place to stay because we had tickets to see Chelsea vs Team America. The Dallas Cowboys Stadium recommends this spot on their website so we went to check it out. The resort is beautiful and we were able to get a room which was nothing special to talk about. We left to go see the practice session the day before the game. When we returned we went to eat at the steakhouse inside the resort and we really enjoyed the lobster bisque but the steak was not worth the movie we spent on it. After our day was going well and we were enjoying our special week we went back up to our room to watch a movie provided by the resort to order. You can guess what movie we picked. Well it was late and my husband and I were laughing because we were watching a comedy. Well, one of the neighbors called security on us. The security guy was extremely rude and told my husband when he answered the door to turn down the movie and if there was anyone in the room that was not permitted to leave. He was accusing us of having a group of people in our room. We could only assume he was thinking we came from the nightclub they have in the resort but we did not even go there on our trip. Why provide a movie you can't even enjoy and threaten us with a warning and the next time we would be kicked out... for WATCHING A MOVIE! I would not recommend this place because you can't enjoy all of it.
Well, seeing as I could not find a place to review the OLD HICKORY STEAKHOUSE, I will leave it here under the general hotel reviews. Service was impeccable, atmosphere was good. They do not stick to the business casual code..Many people(dudes)were in jeans and t-shirts. I would give the food a 5-6 out of 10 overall. It was quite expensive, so I would expect the meal to be, well awesome. The best thing was the habenero cream corn. (10 outta 10) I have had much better ribeyes for half the price. While good, the garlic truffle fries had WAY TOO MUCH GARLIC. We dropped 2-C notes for our anniversary.(just a cost comparison) If the steak had been to die for I would have given them a five, but it was just ok.
