I've read what some of the others had to say about Abuelo's and honestly don't know why this restaurant received so many positive reviews. As far as mexican food goes, our meals were mediocre at best. We were in a group of four and all of us tasted a sample of each meal item. The items containing ground beef wouldn't even make it at a fast food chain, in fact, Taco Bell is probaly better quality. The chicken items were an improvement, but I've tasted much better at any of the Vaquero locations. Their margaritas (which the servers rave about)lacked the smooth yet tart flavor you get at Las Margartias. PATRONS BEWARE: We ordered a pitcher of margaritas, the posted price is $21. We asked to upgrade the tequila to Cuervo 1800, the server never advised a huge upcharge, but it took the price of the pitcher to $43. We challenged this, but to no avail. We could of had two pitchers of their normal vs. the one aledged premium one.
Overall dining experience, ho hum. All this place has to offer is atmosphere. We won't waste another meal opportunity on Abuelo's.
Loved everything about this restaurant! The atmosphere, with the pretty murals on the walls and the intimate candlelit tables, the staff was pleasant and knowledgeable, the food was delicious , served hot with plenty of choices on the menu and the prices are surprisingly low. We will definately go back to Abuelos and bring our friends along!!
I was very impressed with the food at Abuelo's! I ordered the Chicken Medallions (on the lunch menu) and it was fabulous. The entire plate came out piping hot. The chicken was lightly breaded and was stuffed with spicey sausage and cheese. It came with a side of cheese sauce. The sauce was wonderful, but the chicken was sooo flavorful on its own that I ate the chicken without the cheese sauce, and dipped my chips into the cheese sauce instead.
My plate also had delicious refried beans and rice. The rice was full of flavor, and I could have eaten a whole bowl of the rice and beans on their own and would have been in heaven. The chicken was wonderful as well. It was cooked to perfection.
I am craving Abuelo's and I was just there! I am counting down the days until we return.
The only downside is that our waitress was very crabby. She barely looked at us or said 2 words. I don't like overly friendly either, but at least smile when you introduce yourself. We literally felt like we were in her way. She did refill our drinks promptly and give us more chips and salsa without us asking, but its the way she suddenly appeared, slapped the things on our table and sort of grunted and walked away. Each time we smiled and said thank you, she just looked at us and walked away.
Maybe she was having a bad day? I did notice the other waiters and waitresses seemed very friendly. A few even stopped and talked to our little girl and said how cute she was. But our waitress, whewww watch out.
Overall, the food was soooooo good I'd go again even if we got the crabby waitress again.
Must try if you are at Easton, and worth the drive even if you are not at Easton shopping!
