A good place to be!: Mount Gallitzin Academy has a 137 year history. It is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph. The academy has a preschool through grade 8. Financial aid is available. It is located on 88 acres of beautiful land. MGA is more than a place where children learn. It is a place where children grow intellectually, spiritually and socially. Children work, pray and play together. Children are valued and respect is the norm. Teachers take the time to know and appreciate each child's gifts. Peace and social justice are woven into the curriculum. In addition there are intergenerational activities with the residents of Villa St. Joseph and the retired sisters in the motherhouse. Spanish is taught from K-8. There is a networked computer lab served by a T-1 line. The library has been recently renovated. There is a gymnasium and swimming pool. As part of the Fine Arts Program MGA has both an art studio and music studio. Students can take music lessons, participate in band, art, dramatic performances and productions. The Fine Arts Program is designed to foster students' appreciation for the arts.
Students are offered a well-balanced, challenging academic program that nurtures their intellectual, personal and spiritual growth with an emphasis on Gospel values of peace and justice. Teachers make a conscious effort to challenge students to go beyond mastery of basic skills and develop as independent inquirers and problem solvers.
A wide range of extracurricular opportunities balances the academic offerings. They include basketball, soccer, cheerleading, forensics, Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science and student council.
