| About: | In a tribute to the thrilling history of United States space exploration, the Space Center welcomes visitors to climb aboard a full size space shuttle replica, view moon rocks, and get a hands-on look at the science beyond the drama. Take a tour venturing deep into NASA's spaceport facilities, or visit the Rocket Garden, featuring eight massive rockets from past eras. An IMAX Theater shows movies on a five-story screen. The complex is also home to the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. Please note that this is a working space flight facility; hours and operations may change without notice. |

Fun for everyone: If you haven't been recently, you need to visit again! My visit was on June 5, 2007. In my group were 2 wheelchair handicapped young people and the entire day everyone working there made sure we all got to enjoy each and every experience. Get there early so you have enough time to experience everything!
Great Park, But...: But it's missing something. As America's spaceport and the leading space center/launch site in the world, the displays - both in content and in display - and significantly lacking in some respects.... The Saturan V building remains the highlight, but the bus ride is cubersome and somewhat haphazard as far as rides, space, and scheduling goes. There is ongoing construction which should greatly enhance the drawing power of this place, and the rocket "garden" remains an impressive collection of spacecraft and the rockets that took them aloft.
However, if you buy a "Maximum Access" pass, the tickets will get you into the Astronaut Hall of Fame as well, about 6 miles west.... This is how a space museum should be!! It's a not-to-miss addition to a visit to the Space Center, and in my opinion, better than anything that the Kennedy Space Center has been able to produce.
Still, there's a ton of fascinating history in the area. Not knocking the park; just wish we as proud Americans would put on a better show.
