My husband and I have been to the 17th St Bar and Grill three times for dinner now. Two of those times we left with out having a meal. The first time we went to 17th St we were impressed with their food. We found the quality to be excellent and the flavors were perfect. The waitress was acceptable but not exceptional. Our order was taken quickly and there was not a long wait for the food. After the food was delivered we did not see the waitress again to refill our drinks or to see how we were doing. We did not see her again until we were ready to leave.
Our second experience there was a few months later. The restaurant was moderately busy and there was only a short wait for a table. Once the hostess sat us down with our menus we waited for the waitress to come by to take our order. We waited waited 10 minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us (she didn't even tell us that she would be with us in a minute). I asked the hostess if some one would be by soon but no one came by for another 5-10 minutes. We got up and went to the hostess station just to find several of the servers and the hostess sitting around chatting. We got irritated and left. We called and spoke with a manager who apologized and begged for us to try them out again. She even sent us a $25 gift certificate.
Our third (and final) time it was a Sunday evening an hour before they closed. We were seated immediately and the waitress was there to take our order within minutes. We were glad that it this trip was off to a better start. We placed a drink order and it was delivered quickly and placed an order for an appetizer and two dinners. A few minutes later our waitress came out and informed us that there was no corn on the cob becuase it was a seasonal vegetable. We changed the order and waited for our meal. Our appetizer came out and it was delicious. A few minutes after that our waitress came out and told us that their was only enough bbq beef for one of the meals we had ordered. The waitress then begged us to order something different fearing that her boss would be angry. Keep in mind, by the time she told us that they were out of bbq beef we had finished our appetizer and were expecting our entrees. Next the manager comes over and begged us to order anything different for free. By then it was too late; we wanted what we wanted and for a second time we were disappointed. Granted, some people would have jumped at a free steak but we were at an award winning bbq place and we wanted bbq. It was like going to a steak house where they had run out of half of their steaks; no filet mignon, no t-bone, no NY strip.
Needless to say we will not be eating there again. We're not saying we don't love the food simply that no food is worth that much trouble.
Good BBQ, not price friendly for kids: The BBQ is pretty darn good. I especially love their BBQ chicken salad with honey mustard dressing. The atomsphere is very down home although the lighting is a little too dim for my liking. Seating and slow service sometimes is an issue. The kids menu is sort of pricey, especially for little ones with small appetites.
Great dining experience: The food was great. The service was excellent. Our server's name was Kacie. She was very pleasant and extremely proffessional. She saw that all our needs were met. A++++++++++++++++++++++++++
