Loved the Chicken But Not the Experience: The stars of this restaurant's menu are the fried chicken, Sock-It-to-Me cake, and biscuits (though occasionally you will get a hockey puck). The waffles are okay, IMO, though some people really adore them, with their clove-y, coconutty flavors.
I adore fried chicken, and used to go to this restaurant at least once a week to get some wings with two biscuits and a piece of cake. But... On my birthday, I arranged to meet many friends for brunch there. They all gave me presents, which I forgot in a bag on the table. Even though I and a few of my friends stood outside for at least 10 minutes after we vacated our table, no one from the restaurant thought to ask me if I wanted the full, heavy Sephora bag I'd left on the table. Then, when I remembered hours later that I'd left the bag there, the manager of the restaurant informed me that the bag had probably been "thrown out" and that they'd already dumped that day's trash and that they couldn't be held responsible for anything I'd left there. Honestly, how anyone could throw out an obviously full bag, let alone a full Sephora bag, is beyond me. I sort of hope someone stole it so at least someone can enjoy all the presents that were stashed in it!
For me, this was the last straw. I have said before that HCW wasn't worth it (distance, occasional attitude, etc.), but, this time, I mean it. My husband thinks I'll change my mind the next time I really crave fried chicken (and theirs is good!), but I've already started figuring out other places to check out: Southern Oven Baking Company, Casa Orinda, Jodie's, Nellie's, Ricky's Corner, Southern Cafe, and Merritt Restaurant & Bakery, to name a few.
Beats Roscoes !!: Much better than Roscoe's. We live nerar Los Angeles but we prefer this one in Oakland. Much tastier waffles and chicken and a much more varied menu.
Good Service...Bad Food: I just came back from Los Angeles and ate at roscoes.I was hoping the same thing for this chicken and waffles place, but I was wrong. They have good customer service and the restaraunt was bigger and roomer then Roscoes, but the food was horrible.First the waffles tasted like it was made from the package box and to top it off it tasted like it had clove seasoning in the waffles. The combo of the taste was bad!! Then the chicken was not as good.It seemed like it was tangy(lemon or orange in it) and fried in Tempura batter.I should listen to my friend who said it was a imitations of Roscoes!!!!Never again will I go there again.
