   Outstanding Preschool: Back in the days when daycares and preschools where basically holding tanks for children..Headstart had distinguished itself as a working model what a preschool should be..working with poor and at risk children they have a well integrated program involving community partnerships with agencies, parents and the private sector, that results in children learning and doing at ages normally reserved for kindergarden and up. I am a storyteller and promote library services throughout the county and have visited and performed before dozens of centers. I have yet to see any centers that prepare these kids for public school the the Headstart centers do. Longs is one of three in horry county, the other two in GreenSea and Conway. If you want your child in a safe, clean, and loving environment, a nurturing of learning climate. a happy environment then Headstart really is the place to get their Headstart. Anyone who wants to open a center with children should go to a local Headstart and see how its done. 2 teachers per class, plenty of activities, healthy food and security in place. These kids leave with a love of learning, a pride in learning, a joy of reading and listening to books being read. I see Hispanic, Black, White and Red...our future peacemakers will come from centers like Headstart .
   Perhaps the public schools should take note and visit a headstart too so they will know how to keep the lights lit in these children as opposed to extingushing them..When I see Headstart..I see hope for the future..It really is a class act
