A long but thorough review:
Hana Sushi has quality food and a cozy atmosphere. I love coming here every time I visit Phoenix since it is a "mom and pop" restaurant with some awesome food. It isn't the most romantic sushi experience, but you pay more for the food than the atmosphere here. Hana Sushi has other food besides sushi so you need not worry about taking someone along who despises sushi. The meals are pretty good, but most people definitely come for the sushi.
I worked there for about two years and was very impressed with the cleanliness of food preparation compared to previous jobs. Also, every customer was very pleased with the restaurant and we had regular Japanese customers- that should say enough in itself (among many American regulars). The only time people seemed to be displeased was due to slower than average service at high traffic times since Hana Sushi has only 2-3 chefs and 2 waitresses.
The menu is the "same" as Mr. Sushi since the owner/sushi chef worked at Mr. Sushi for a long time. However, I have dined at both restaurants and the same rolls taste different due to alterations the chef made in the way rolls are prepared. Many customers who once dined at Mr. Sushi came to our restaurant to follow Tony since he improved the rolls (in a number of customers' opinions, but I agree after trying the same rolls at each place).
This is my favorite sushi restaurant for numerous reasons, but the number one reason besides a quality taste is due to proportions. All other restaurants I have been to the rice to contents inside sushi are never pleasing. Usually the rice daunts the innards, however, at Hana Sushi the contents of the roll are pretty much always at least half the diameter of a sushi roll. I love rice but in a decent proportion so I can get the taste of each ingredient within the sushi. I know when I eat at Hana Sushi that I am buying more than just rice with a bit of fish.
Variety= 5 stars/ Freshness= 5 stars/ Service= 5 stars
What else matters? But again, that's just me. I was impressed.
And I can be such a ... when it comes to food, especially sushi.
Nice cozy place to enjoy lunch or dinner and when I mean cozy, I mean cozy. Don't think of planning your next company meeting there
because you'll have half the crew waiting outside. But overall,
I definetly recommend "you" the serious sushi aficionado to check it out. I'll be seeing your comments here soon.-Gordo
Good food - Good price. I would go there again! Nice staff!
