Once again, Sancho's Taqueria has made a mistake on my order. Of course it's my fault for giving them yet another try after 3 screwed up orders in a row. You would think that it would be simple to make 2 burritos, one chicken with guacamole and no cheese and the other beef with cheese but no guacamole, but these guys seem incapable of getting a simple order like that right.
We haven't gone there in over a year, despite it's close location, due to them not being able to get our take out order right. In the past they've offered to make a new order only to screw even that up so this time the dog got an expensive meal and I am sworn never to spend my money at this place again. 4 mistakes in 4 orders is enough chances in my opinion.
If you don't care if they get it right, enjoy the place but if you want to eat what you order drive somewhere else and get what you wanted.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place: the carne asada burrito has a distinctive complex smoky flavor that is one of a kind.......yum! their guacamole is really good too, chunky with the right amount of flavorings. Their carne asada tacos are good but their carne asada burrito takes the prize
I don't know where these bums giving Sancho's less than 4 stars have been eating, but it isn't the same Sancho's where I've eaten. This place is insanely better than 99% of the taquerias I've been to. La Azteca, Karlitas, those other weird places on Woodside Road or Middlefield, none hold a candle to Sancho's.
Their star dish is the fish taco. Crispy, juicy, perfectly cooked fish, delicious sauce with fresh vegetables. A little hard to hold, but all good tacos are like that. There's a reason the SF Chronicle voted this place as having the best taco in the Bay Area, and the fish taco at Sancho's is it.
If you order a more mundane taco, like carnitas, carne asada, pollo, or whatever, you get an equally large taco (ask for a Sancho's taco - it's two tortillas with cheese between them!), perfectly cooked, meat with juice literally running everywhere, delicious guacamole, fresh pico de gallo salsa, and queso fresco (it could be queso blanco... or mozzarella. I'm not sure) grated on top. Fantastic. I've eaten so many fish tacos here that sometimes I get sick of them, and when that happens, I just order a few meat tacos and I'm good.
Their burritos are large, in the SF tradition, and taste great. No cold spots, no lumps of any one ingredient, and they hold together well if you use the technique of only removing 1-2" of foil at a time.
Chile rellenos are also excellent. On weekend mornings they serve huevos rancheros, which is, as far as I'm concerned, the perfect food to fix a hangover. For me anyway.
Bottom line, this place is awesome. If you live anywhere between San Francisco and San Jose, or are near any of the bridges, you owe it to yourself to come here. I can barely imagine a better taqueria, and, with the new expansion they've done, you get the same quality of food, with actual tables to sit at. Long time patrons know what I'm talking about.
