This was the 2nd time I went to Mo Jo's and was again disgusted with the over-priced short pour drinks and lazy waitstaff. The restaurant was not crowded and we waited 10 minutes b4 anyone showed up at our table. 1app.,1 cup of soup and 1 sandwich and 45 minutes later no food. I went searching for our waitress who I found in a cubbyhole texting on her phone. After a litany of excuses and an offer of free dessert(declined) we still had to wait for our check(and a pen that wouldn't write). The entire staff seemed like high school dropouts without a care.If you want a true cajun experience go to Heaven on Seven in Naperville.
One of the dirtiest bars I have ever been to! The counter was dirty even where people weren't sitting. Ever heard of cleaning? The girl bartender was to busy to clean because she was talking, drinking, and eating behind the bar to pay any attention to anything. Even the guy next to me complained about how dirty it was so the girl would clean it. Even then she still didn't do a good job. Their Bloody Mary self-serve bar was just NASTY! Probably only good to drink when they first open. Wouldn't be surprised if they reuse all the old fixings again that someone had probably touched. By the way it was my first time here and expected so much more. I tried many drink including their hurricane. All drinks weren't that great since their hurrican is pre-made on the tap and it's not even red colored!!! Tasted nasty!!! I have to say it was fun being there cause I fitted in better, however I didn't try the food although I'm sure it's not the greatest based on their drinks. It almost seems like they don't want to work. They expect everyone to be drunk and not give a crap about the establishment they are in. Only drunk people give this place good reviews! I had lived in Plainfield for 6 years and this one nasty bar. Cute girls behind bar, but all with some sort of tude behind the bar. I won't be going back!
On a staycation this summer and Mo Joes was awesome! My 4 kids loved the beads waiting for them at the table; and that they got to keep them. They also loved drinking their soda from mason jars. The cornbread was warm and fresh out of the oven. Even though it wasn't brought to the table until a good 10 minutes after we sat down, I know it was made to order. We started w/the calamari appetizer ....perfectly breaded, not chewy; and the 2 sauces appealed to both my kids and my husband and I (1 spicey and 1 not). The cup of turtle soup I ordered seemed more like a bowl. The broth was a bit to heavy, and heavy on the spices. Wouldn't order again. Also, it came w/the meal. Would have liked it before. The tuna my husband ordered was a perfect rare! Tasty and fresh. I ordered the shrimp creole....YUM! The shrimp were bountiful and HUGE! Had to cut each shrimp into 4 parts to fit it on my spoon. I also ordered a side of fried okra. While fresh, nothing spectacular. Encouraging my children to try different foods we steared them away from the children's menu. We split 2 Po Boy fried shrimp sandwiches between the 4 of them. 1 order came with the fried onion strips, the other w/the house cajun fries. The onion strips went down no problem. The cajun fries had a bit of a bite to them. The bread on the Po Boys was hard...perhaps over heated. The children just took their forks and dove right into the shrimp; leaving the bread behind. For dessert we ordered the 2 scoop banana split and the cheesecake filled crepe. The banana split came a good 4 minutes before the crepe. Timing was definitely off. While slow "service" seems to be the theme, I found it a good thing. I'd rather have my shrimp creole made to order, than to eat out of a stock pot of creole made earlier in the day. I would definitely recommend this place. It's different and a much needed escape in today's trying times. My girls especially loved the "Good Girl"/"Bad Girl" bathroom themes. When going, don't be in a hurry to get your food as it's made to order. And remember, the server doesn't cook the food....she only brings it to you when it's ready. As for our server...attentive, attentive, attentive! It's worth checking out!
