When these (for there are several in Maryland and Virginia) large thriftshops first opened, the prices were great. After about two years the prices have gotten too high to make a trip there worthwhile. It is still good for common brand clothing, kitchen ware. However, forget bargains on designer items (most are fake and there is a no return on anything policy). Jewelry is often more expensive than a Department Store Sale. Some nik-naks are reasonable but most are not. The sales staff are polite but the mangers can be just plain rude. They employ in store off duty police since there are often disputes or petty thefts. I would rate these stores as average since they are so large you may find what you are looking for. Don't expect to find a treasure though.

I had to wait at a register for about 15 minutes while three employees tested whether a recurring problem would reoccur when they rang up my goods. It did. They called the manager. When he fiddled with the register, got on his cell phone, and started talking to someone, I asked why I couldn't have been rung up at another till because was late for an appointment. The manager said they didn't know there was a problem with the till. I said they did. He mocked me, and said "sorry, ma'm, we did know about it -- now are you happy?" I told him he was being rude. He then angrily said I should go to Sears or JC Penney because he didn't want people like me at his store! The cashiers were so embarrased that they apologized for his behavior. I think the owner, Mr. Ellison, needs to send this employee for customer relations training and anger management.
