The service was slow, the food took forever to come to the table. The food did not live up to the cost, and other reviews.
Well I must say I have always enjoyed the food at Cacique...however my praises stop there. It is quite possibly the WORST service on the planet.
My guests and I were patiently waiting for a server to approach our table only to witness other servers standing around chatting. When the busboy asked us for chips and salsa, he said he would take our order. I asked for a waiter both in English and Spanish but he kept saying he would take care of us...after attempting to take our order and he had to return to ask additional questions I demanded a server.
I'll always give a restaurant some latitude when it comes to errors, I mean we all have bad days, but I'm a little concerned when asking around town and the general perception is the same. Good Luck Cacique.
Cacique has a terrific location, comfortable decor that isn't kitchy, and a menu to please a wide range of pallets. Prices were moderate: dinners ranged from $15-30. Desserts were unexpectedly well-priced. Nice wine and drink selection.
We had 7:00pm reservations for 2 on a beautiful Sat. night. We probably could have gotten in without them for a short wait, but the place was quite busy and I was glad to have made them. We were seated at a 2-person table (tables were quite close together; this would not be the place to go for a romantic, quiet meal). We were served chips and salsa fairly quickly. The chips were super-thin and crisp -- yum! The salsa was unlike any I've had; very smooth, almost the consistency of marinara. It had a nice spicy kick. I could see how this could be an addicting start to a meal.
Our server Stephanie arrived and we ordered Gambas Al Ajillo as an appetizer -- 6 large shrimp in a delicious olive oil/garlic sauce with warm bread to dip. Superb, fresh shrimp with a lovely sauce that was rich yet light. Outstanding!
My husband ordered Pato Ala Sevillana which was a half a roast duck in an olive sauce. It was served with black beans, white rice and vegetables (broccoli, carrots, green beans). He enjoyed it very much and even liked the rice though he's not much of a rice eater. I had the Rockfish Del Mar described as rockfish served in a seafood sauce. It was a lovely filet of rockfish seasoned perfectly, under a buttery sauce with two large scallops and two shrimp. Divine! Also served with beans, rice & vegetables. The beans were somewhat bland and chalky but the rice was delicious and the vegetables were perfectly done -- just past the "Chinese crisp" point. I had a glass of Concha y Toro sauvignon blanc with my meal which was lovely.
For dessert my husband chose the chocolate cake -- it was the most expensive dessert at $6.95 and when it arrived it was a very thin slice, but one bite and we knew it was worth it. It was like eating fudge -- so creamy, rich and delicious. I chose the tres leche cake. Mmmmm.... a wonderfully light sponge cake with a layer of whipped cream and raspberry sauce drenched in a creamy/milky sauce --- not sure I'm describing what it is, exactly, but it was out of this world! We will definitely be returning in the future.
