If you are looking for typical messy burger, this is not your place! If you cant handle burger fried in grease then this is not your place. Today is my first time there. The food, people and place were very intersting! Would I go again? yes! I am bringing my country hottie there again next week!
These burgers are AWESOME!!! If you don't believe me, get a copy of George Motz's recent book, "Hamburger America" (www.hamburgeramerica.com)a guide to the 100 best burger joints in the United States. I ran into the author by chance at a book signing, bought the book and have been trying to hit as many on the list as possible. Yes...The Hamburger Wagon made the book. The taste is sooooooo unique and I love the whole presentation (nostalgic, etc.) They come only with salt, pepper, slice of onion and pickle. I think the pickle is the secret (ask for extra pickle). Cold drinks and good chips too!!!! A trip to the Hamburger Wagon is an absolute must!!!!!
I had heard great things about the Wagon and passed by there a million times, but never tried them since htey changed owners, so I decided to give them a try. It was lunch time (around Noon) and the crowd was light and I decided to order a couple of burgers. The burgers were small (less than 1/5 pound) and were deep fried pressed in oil, the buns were lain out with a fresh thick slice of onion and piled with a very salty house seasoning. Although deep fried they were not greasy, but rather dry, very salty and the onions were not for the faint of heart (so strong they will knock you and your sinuses out). I guess they are just not for me...
