Saturday night, only 3 tables filled in this gigantic space? According to Pittsburgh Mag and I quote "the cocktail waitresses dolled up in minis, colored ties and cocked fedoras . . . the coolest retro-atmosphere this side of Sinatraâs bachelor pad", I'm not sure what place this guy went to? Wasn't where we went. Appetizers: fruit & cheese plate chef selection of fine cheeses, fruits, toasted crostini - well if american cheddar, domestic gouda, pepper-jack and tradition swiss served with RITZ cracker and 3 blackberries for $13 is what your looking for... Horrid. surf ân turf skewers filet mignon, shrimp, crostini, field greens, fiery horseradish dipping sauce crab - Cold, 2 small shrimp and 2 cubes of fillet $9, What? Dinner - Salmon was good but served with 1 TBSP of creamed spinach for $20. Bolongese pasta was good. Coffee after dinner absolutely cold. Entertainment - I wish I could say the evening got better when Brass Impact showed up, but it got worst. This over 60 group should put down their instruments and fake it. The trumbone player, well lets not talk about it. A small crowd of 60 and 70 year olds filtered in and that's when we couldn't take it anymore. Any under 40 by 9:30 had left. Half hour for $5 a head, I should have demanded my money back. I gave it an extra star because the place has potential if you have a great crowd, music and food. We won't be back.
Definitely in my top 3 restaurants in Pittsburgh. Great homemade pasta, bread and salads. Can't say enough good things about this place and the owners, Lenny and Kathy Cefalo. I nice upscale, trendy resturant and nightclub without an attitude. Try it once and you'll be hooked.
Cefalo's is unlike any other "dining experience" in Pittsburgh. This converted church is beautiful and very tasteful. Dinner was delicious. The menu is a bit limited but after only 4-5 weeks of having a dinner menu, the food was elegant and well proportioned. The live entertainment was a jazz duo (a singer and a pianist) and they were quite good. Wednesdays they have a movie/martini night that I'm dying to take in. I think that Cefalo's has plenty of potential and tons of character. Check it out!
