Call first.
For starters, I'm not from McAllen and I was naturally skeptical about Vietnamese food so close to Mexico. Seems that most Vietnamese restaurants serve watered down dishes only half as tasty as they were meant to be (due to the fact that most Americans cant handle the smell of Nuoc Mam). I'm not Vietnamese, but as pilots say, I've logged about 13 years of Vietnamese Culture immersion. Saigon Cafe serves completely authentic food. In my one week of working here, I've had the Bun Bo Hue, Pho Tai, and the Bun Mi Ga. I travel alot, and honestly, the food here is better than any place I've been to in Austin or Houston. The owners are great people...even seeing past the fact that both of my arms are sleeved out. She says that she makes all of the food fresh everyday, and it tastes like it. My only complaint is that they dont serve dishes like Mum Ruoc or Bun Mam. But i guess if they did, most American wouldn't make it past the front door. Great AUTHENTIC food, clean atmosphere, and good people. Check em out. On a side note, if you're ever in Houston, check out Thai Spice on Bellaire.
