Fun atmosphere, great service, yummy food.
Great kids choices on the menu and a kid-friendly environment.
I'm in absolute loooove with the beef chimichanga. 
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI was surprised upon moving to Stevens Point that I couldn't find an authentic mexican food restaurant--there were plenty of authentic mexicans, but not one restaurant for them to eat in! After moving here from California, this was a big shock. I was stuck with Taco Bell, and I didn't like that one bit.
When El Mezcal opened, I was there the next day. The food is good, the top shelf tequilla selection is excellent, and the staff will actually suggest things to you. This is a rare quality...most wait staff doesn't want to get blamed for a bad suggestion so I like it when they're confident enough to tell you what they think you'll like.
My favorite item on the menu has to be the carnitas. El Mezcal does carnitas the way it's supposed to be done and I strongly suggest the dish to anyone shy of a vegetarian. In fact, any choice is likely to meet with loads of approval. I have ranged all over this menu and I've yet to find something short of excellent. There is only one way to make the fare more authentic, but I doubt you'll like it--there's no pig goiter on the menu. Seviche would also be nice.
El Mezcal is doing it right, and the customers reap the benefits! If this restaurant was in Cali, it would get four stars. But here in Wisconsin it gets five.
