User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsOn a recent trip, while running from Hurricane Ike, I had the pleasure of meeting Merle and her husband. They gave me a cup of water for my dog and next thing you know he brought my dog a cup of brisket. Man was that a happy dog. I got my bbq sandwiches to go and about half hour later I understood what all that tail wagging was about. That was the most tender, flavorful piece of meat I've ever had. Darn shame it's 150 miles away. Oh well I love road trips. You should all make the trip.

Best Barbecue in Town: Merle's BBQ is the best barbecue in the Port Lavaca/Point Comfort area, and definitely worth a trip across the Lavaca Bay bridge. Exceptional brisket and sausage. Ribs run from good to great, depending on the day. A lunchtime favorite with the workers at the local Alcoa and Formosa Plastics plants. The meat is tender and perfectly smoked, and the sandwiches are HUGE. The sauce is very good. The sides are good, but not exceptional. It's all about the meat. Prices are better than reasonable. The ambiance is minimal, but hey, it's a rolling road-side barbecue stand. How much ambiance can there be? Just be sure to get there before 6:00 p.m./dark, or the BBQ wagon will be gone.
