Okay, in the end.: We tried making a reservation for 7:30 pm on a weeknight a few days before we went but the person on the telephone said that we wouldn't need to. When we got there, it was crowded and we were told that there would be a half hour wait. Needless to say, we were annoyed. We were told we could sit in the bar/lounge area and order food at the bar. So, since we were hungry, and the lounge area did look comfortable with couch like seating and small tables, we went ahead and sat down. Since this was our first time, we asked the waiter if he could recommend a dish between two that we were leaning toward and he hadn't tried either. When we ordered another selection, he said, oh that sounds good. I thought, this must be his first day! We ended up with pretty tasty dishes, the rice with scallion, ginger and egg was very good. It was much quieter there eating in the lounge and very dark. The outer room was loud and it would of been somewhat challenging to have a conversation. Although, it did look good. And, we did notice that they accidentally charged us for a glass of wine that we didn't order...all in all the lounge was laid back and the service not bad.

Los Angeles' Red Pearl: I believe the Red Pearl Kitchen runs 3 outlets, but that evening we dined at their Huntington Beach's at Walnut Avenue.

It is one restaurant serving authentic Asian food with a WOW....great food, sensual ambience, warm service, sexy cocktails; above all a great restaurant with the Wow factor…truly authentic Asian food.

The Red Pearl Kitchen doesn’t take bookings, so there are queues, a paradoxical boost to business, as it’s the obvious place to be. We were there close to 10pm, I think it was the best time.

Don’t miss the crispy pork belly, a melting tender pork striated with delicious fat, served on a pile of greens and a dipping sauce of honey with hot Sichuan peppercorns.

You would love to be back for more....
