yeah i bet u think Petco is better because of downtown and what u talking about parking at Qualcomm dude there is absolutely no parking whatsoever at Petco your best means of transportation is the Trolley or bus and don't even get me started with food prices and annoying padres fans and the horrible team they put out there year end and year out absolutely Pathetic
What?: The first reviewers concerns are terrible. Qualcomm is a terrible stadium that is too old to still be used for professional purposes. The parking is not as bad as you might think. Arrive well enough before the game (at most 30 minutes) and you'll find easy parking. The structure by Omni is only $8.00 and the same price applies to parking in the convention center and next to it. You could also park next to Horton Plaza and simply walk. Downtown San Diego is improving and upon a recent visit there were lots of new stores en route to the ballpark. Qualcomm was easier to get to in some aspects but Petco is so much better with so much more to do. There's the park at the park, the Western Metal Supply Building, and tons of restaraunts and bars open before and after the game. Lots of them even have game day specials. A great place to go.
Parking? Park somewhere else!: Qualcomm was a great park for the Padres, nothing wrong there. Great parking and cheap tickets, you could park and get in the game for under $20. What's wrong with that? Nothing that I can see.
But parking at Petco is a little different. People that live around the ballpark can have some difficulty parking in their own parking spaces during the ball season. People even try to buy or rent local's parking spaces during the season (or maybe they meant annually). This shows how non-residents think that everything is for sale in San Diego now, no consideration or respect for privacy.
San Diego has a nice year-round climate. Not so San Francisco. Anyone who's ever been to a game at Candlestick (which it'll always be) knows how the wind can get from the ocean. Not that the same thing's imminent at Petco, but an example of why a ball park shouldn't be so close to the shore.
A downtown ball park? No, not even with the unusual downtown atmosphere that San Diego has had. Just don't want to go downtown to watch a ballgame.
And Petco? Qualcomm had more of a ring to it, didn't it?
Oh, well, so much for the Series.
