The hotel is nice if you stay on the summit side but was disappointed in several things. First, the hotel indicates that there is a beach by the pool. This is true but our first day (Thur) we were able to use the cabana at no charge. On Friday, I returned to the pool only to be approached by staff that there was a $70 charge to use the cabana, uncovered bed or bench that was any where near the sandy area of the pool. The staff was very rude when I asked why it cost nothing the previous day. I felt completely uncomfortable and never got any answers. They need better advertisement for that. Don't stay Friday night or saturday, there are so many people that it took us 1/2 hour to get to our room using the elevator. We upgraded our room and was really quite until Friday night when people were slamming doors and yellling down the hallway until 4am. THen we woke up to a fight between two men in front of our room. I was with my family and and I did not appreciate the rif raf that was there. I don't think I would stay again. The hotel did not justify its price!
I go to the Reno area once or twice a month for business. I have stayed in almost all of the Casio hotels in the area at least once and some several times. The last couple of times I have stayed in the Grand Sierra and enjoyed my stay. The regular rooms are fine, although a little outdated. The condo rooms at the top of the hotel are beautiful and well appointed.
The things I like about the hotel;
* Rooms have always been clean and comfortable
* Lots of dining choices (good buffet)
* Good casino
* Plenty of activities for all ages
* Hotel workers have always been friendly
The cons;
* Parking can be a challenge. Huge outdoor lot that can fill up on busy days. It's a hike to the hotel.
* Depending on the day of the week (and the time of the year) parts of the hotel may be noisy.
* If you have a room at the end of a wing, it can be a long walk from the elevator.
Overall, I like the hotel and would stay there again (this month in fact!). I realize that it is still a work in progress and there is still renovation going on, but the positives outweigh the negatives.
Great fun place. I love the Mustangs Saloon and sports bar. Live country music every Thursday through Saturday. If your bored come on down an' kick up your heels! Cheap drinks too.
