I just can't say enough about The Tie Bar. I am a tie guy - I own ties from every label. These ties are on par with nearly every label I own. And the selection blows me away. I don't know how they have so many designs with such great quality, and for fifteen $15 dollars? Great place. Found them in GQ.
I was curious about this place after reading about it. I don't normally spend a lot on ties ($150 is an awful lot to pay for a silk thing that constricts your airway and collects bacteria), and generally get decent ties on clearance or on sale from local department stores. $15 is about all I care to spend on a tie, so I figured I'd give these guys a try.
I ordered 2 ties on a Tuesday - received two ties on a Friday. An emerald stripe and a silver Clinton. The emerald stripe arrived in fine condition, but the silver clinton came with an unsightly longitudinal crease along the presentation side of the tie. Needless to say, I couldn't wear it in public in good conscience. I was a bit steamed, because I figured that I was now going to have to pay shipping again to ship the thing back (the return policy's actually pretty liberal as long as you're willing to pay shipping to the factory).
To let off said steam, I wrote an email expressing my dismay at having received such an obviously defective product and annoyance at having to pack the thing back up, send it, and wait for the return. Within 15 minutes of writing my screed of hate, I received a simple (oddly humorous) response offering to reimburse shipping back to the factory (so I wouldn't have to pay shipping 2x). Needless to say, I was impressed with customer service.
As to tie quality (considering the non-defective tie I received), I'll have to say it's on par if not better than most department store offerings at the ~$50 price point (impressive value given the $15 price). They're not self-tipped, but they are handmade (in China - if this bothers you, then look elsewhere, but most ties in the sub $50 range are being made in China now). The Kiton/Brioni types will be disappointed, but most of us folks in middle America will be quite impressed. I do recommend a 4 in hand knot given the relative thickness of the ties.
Amazing customer service!!!!
What a find (saw in GQ). Awesome classic and trendy ties. beautiful pocket squares and tie bars. Unbelievable value. Definitely my new go to place for ties and accessories.
