8/5/09 Just recieved my first haircut from Nubia at Utopia Salon. I must say Nubia skills are spectacular and my hair looks stunning . Not only is the facility beautiful, the staff is equally pleasant. Altogether, Utopia salon is a wonderful environment manned by an amazing stylist. Utopia is definately the place to be.
I just received a horrible haircut from Nubia. HORRIBLE!
I'd like to start by noting that this salon has a big sign on the front door that reads "WE SPECIALIZE IN CURLY HAIR."
As soon as I walked in I was sent to get my hair washed. Nubia never even saw my hair dry to know if it was curly, wavy or straight. (it is wavy.) Any decent salon I've ever been to has done a consultation with my hair dry. In fact, most stylists who specialize in curly/wavy hair will cut my hair while it's dry.
She immediately started butchering my hair, grabbing huge chunks of hair at a time. I think she cut the entire back of my head in 3 cuts. I asked her to give me bangs and she argued with me over how short they should be. After about 10 minutes she was done with the cut and immediately started blow drying my hair straight. It looked ATROCIOUS. When she was done I had to instruct her on where to add layers. She also noted the look of exasperation on my face and I said "well you see, I haven't had my hair straight since I was 18." And it was then that she said "oh I should have asked how you wear your hair." when I finally got to my car I looked in the mirror and had hair ALL over my face. I'm disgusted and will never return.
I just went for a cut with Nuvia last week and have to be honest that this is one of the worst cuts I've ever had. It is very uneven and the layers are ridiculously short that it makes my hair look horrible. I am considering going somewhere else to get it all cut off since it is almost impossible to style as it is and I'm just embarrased by my hair now (whereas it used to be one of my best assets). I simply do not understand why she cut it as she did. I would not recommend this place, but if you want to take a chance, don't say I didn't warn you.

Are you serious? the only places that cut hair while it's dry are those cheap unprofessional inexperience places like the lemon tree, great clips, sam etc....Nubia is great I've been going to the city to get my hair straighten and it was it a hassale. I'm so grateful to have found someone near home that does such a great job.
