I have been bringing my 2 ferrets to Whitestone Vet Care for the past year. Sage and Koda are always treated very well by Dr. Starkey. He is extremely knowledgeable about exotics; especially ferrets. One of my ferrets was suffering from hair loss which Dr. Starkey told me is an indication of adrenal disease in ferrets. He confirmed that she had adrenal disease with a blood test and we decided that the best course of action for Sage was to get a melatonin implant. She got her implant back in February of 2011 and she has since grown a full coat of fur and put on some weight. Although she is not "cured" of her disease, it is being managed nicely by this implant. I will continue to come to Dr. Starkey with any questions that I have regarding my ferrets in the future. A+ vet and also a great support staff!!
My husband and I are very satisfied with the professional service at WVC. We have taken our Bearded dragon Sandy Irwin to Dr. Starkey, and he is an expert in animals including reptiles. Dr. Starkey is very pleasant, caring, and competent. The people who work at the front desk, are also excellent and they do everything to address your concerns, needs, and insure that your pet gets seen immediately if necessary. I thank God that we have such a great Vet, as my lizard was born with a virus and may require a lifetime of vet care. Mary M.
Whitestone Vet Care deserves all the praise it gets. One of our birds had what turned out to be a close call (he was hiding and got stepped on -- not full on...). We'd known Dr. Starkey, now practicing with Dr. Wyler, in other contexts; he is an outstanding board certified avian vet. Time was a concern; getting to Whitestone from lower Manhattan is actually happens a bit faster than other locations, even in Manhattan. As to accommodation: Our little guy was slipped into a chock-full schedule and given a complete check (and other than losing his voice for a few days, he was OK). So: Great doctor, great associated staff, real concern (follow-up calls, even).
